Epic Games was due to start a new ‘Mega Sale’ today

You’d think at this point, after selling over 120 million copies, there was no one left in the world that wanted to play GTA 5 but did not already have a copy. But apparently that’s not the case.

Epic Games was due to start a new ‘Mega Sale’ today, which has a number of big name games at up to 50% off and grants you a £10 coupon every time you spend over £13.99.

To promote the sale there’ll also be a series of free games given away, starting with Grand Theft Auto 5. Or at least that was the idea before the site fell down. We are aware that users may be encountering slow loading times, 500 errors, or launcher crashing at this time and free v bucks generator we are actively working to scale. We’ll provide an update as soon as we can.— Epic Games Store (@EpicGames) May 14, 2020 As we type this the site has been down for almost two hours since the GTA 5 deal went live,

with excitement for the deal increased by the fact that news of the giveaway leaked days earlier. Give the tweet above we assume some people have been able to get into the site, to some degree, but we haven’t seen anything other than a 500 error message since 4pm. With the Epic Games launcher also having problems that means you won’t be able to play any games via it either, including Fortnite. All of this only affects PC games, but it’s likely if the problem goes on for much longer the free offer will be extended beyond its intended end date of Thursday, 21 May. Maybe you’ll be lucky and it’s working now
